Overview

Product Overview

The Strata SLR-TWF Twin Wire Feeder is an advanced laser welding accessory designed to elevate the performance of the SLR3000 and SLR5000 series laser welders. Integrating next-generation laser technology with dual wire feed control, it enables two independently managed wires to be fed and melted into a single weld pool. This dual-feed configuration delivers faster travel speeds, increased deposition rates, and significantly better gap-bridging performance — ideal for demanding fabrication environments.

With the ability to bridge up to 3–4 mm gaps and operate at welding speeds exceeding 250 cm/min, the twin wire feeder provides consistent, high-strength welds with reduced distortion and minimal post-weld finishing. Whether you're working on thin-gauge automotive panels or heavy plate fabrication, this feeder supports a broad range of materials and thicknesses, enhancing productivity while preserving weld quality.

Key Features

  • Dual Wire Feeding Technology
Independently controlled twin wire feeders for flexible material combinations or quick wire swaps (e.g. stainless steel and aluminium).

  • High Gap Bridging Capability
Fills weld gaps up to 3–4 mm using dual 1.6 mm wires — ideal for poor fit-up scenarios.

  • Exceptional Travel Speed
Achieves 250+ cm/min on thin-gauge sheet metal, making it ideal for automotive and tank fabrication.

  • Increased Deposition Rate
Delivers 30–80% higher deposition compared to single-wire systems, boosting productivity with less heat input.

  • Wider Weld Seam Coverage
Supports multi-pass layering and broader seams for improved weld strength and coverage.

  • Performance Across Thicknesses
Suitable for both light sheet work and structural plate welding.

  • Reduced Distortion & Heat Input
Lower energy per wire minimises warping, inter-pass temperatures, and distortion.

  • Fast Material Changeovers
Quickly switch between wire types or materials to minimise downtime and increase throughput.

  • X-Ray Quality Welds
Produces clean, strong, inspection-ready welds with minimal post-processing.

  • Multi-Layer Capable
Excellent for complex builds that require high weld integrity over multiple passes.

Typical Applications

  • High-speed sheet metal production

  • Heavy plate and structural fabrication

  • Automotive and aerospace welding

  • General manufacturing and fabrication

  • Projects requiring high gap tolerance

  • Jobs demanding fast throughput without compromising weld quality

From MIG & TIG to Laser - The Next Step in Welding Innovation

18/06/2025 / Welding Equipment

This blog post introduces laser welding as a modern, efficient alternative to traditional MIG and TIG methods. It explains how laser welding works, its benefits—speed, precision, and minimal post-processing—and where it fits within various industries. The article covers key differences between welding methods, highlights operational and safety advantages, and uses the Strata SLR5000 as a practical example of how handheld laser welders are now accessible to New Zealand workshops. It aims to educate and guide business owners, engineers, and welders on how adopting laser technology can improve productivity and quality in metal fabrication.
