Overview

Product Overview

Promax Large Thermic Lance Rods

A stream of pure oxygen gas is directed through a pipe connected to an oxygen cylinder and regulator. The pipe's tip is ignited using a high-temperature source, such as an oxy-acetylene torch. As the oxygen flows down the pipe, the iron in the steel undergoes combustion, generating intense heat and forming a liquid slag composed of iron oxides and various materials. This molten mixture dribbles and splashes out, resembling a colossal firework sparkler.

The temperature at the heart of the combustion zone reaches approximately 4000 degrees Celsius, surpassing the melting point of any substance found on Earth. For comparison, concrete melts within the range of 1800 to 2500 degrees Celsius, while steel melts at temperatures below 1500 degrees Celsius. Notably, the oxygen-fueled nature of the process enables the lance to cut through materials even underwater.

Key Features

  • Thermic lance rods are typically made from a combination of iron, steel, and alloy materials
  • They rely on a continuous supply of high-pressure oxygen to facilitate the exothermic reaction
  • The rod's tip is ignited using a high-temperature source, such as an oxy-acetylene torch
  • The oxygen-fueled combustion occurs along the length of the rod, generating intense heat
  • The temperature at the core of the combustion zone can reach up to approximately 4000 degrees Celsius
  • The oxygen-based reaction enables thermic lance rods to operate underwater, extending their versatility in various environments
  • A thermic lance is capable of cutting through: all ferrous and non-ferrous metals, refractory materials such as lining and bricks, underwater cutting of metal tracks and bridge supports, concrete or rock structures
